I currently use a large shear that I use for cutting hard objects such as aluminum sheets, heavy wires, thick plastic, ... Probably thanks to Gear Diary. If you want one, might want to get it now.  I like to use a pocket knife. Just use a regular can opener.  You know the kind that snaps on the side of a can and you turn the handle.
